GERMAN - Vision & Intent

Our vision when teaching German at Darrick Wood School is to give students an opportunity to learn a new language and enable them to communicate with others (from any German speaking country in the world) and to learn about their life and culture. We aim to show our students that they need to understand other people, not just expect them to understand us. We hope that they will enjoy learning German and become life-long linguists within our global community. In a post-Brexit world that is still very interconnected, it is increasingly important that pupils have the opportunity to learn a globally important language like German that has links to science, technology as well as the world of business. During German lessons, we aim to provide opportunities for students to listen to and speak in another language, building up their confidence subsequently to read and write in the language also.
